Steps

  1. 1

Check the conditions: you are entering a full-time bachelor's for the first time; Major Entrance Scholarships are judged on academic achievement and leadership at school or in the community.

  2. 2

Submit your admission application to McGill.

  3. 3

For the One-year Scholarship no separate application is needed per the page's description: confirm in the “Eligibility and deadlines” section.

  4. 4

For the Major Entrance Scholarship submit a separate application through the portal after your admission application. Search results say applications open on 1 October and the deadline for schools outside Canada is 21 January; check this in “Eligibility and deadlines”.

  5. 5

Wait for the decision: One-year, $3,000 non-renewable; Major, $12,000 to $48,000 ($3,000–12,000 a year for up to 4 years if conditions are met). Amounts are in Canadian dollars.

What exactly to submit

Documents and materials to attach to the application.

  • The McGill admission application
  • For Major, a separate application through the portal describing achievements and leadership
  • A grades certificate

Example

Example (written by us): Ana applies for admission to McGill, then opens the scholarships portal, applies for a Major Entrance Scholarship describing her school leadership and checks the deadline for schools outside Canada in “Eligibility and deadlines”.

An example we wrote to illustrate: it is not an official sample, replace the details with your own.

How applicants are chosen

Major awards are judged on academic achievement and leadership; places are limited. The amount and renewal conditions follow McGill's rules.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting the separate Major application: it is filed through the portal after the admission application
  • Treating search-result dates as final: read “Eligibility and deadlines”
  • Mixing up Canadian dollars with euros
