About this grant

The Interrail Youth Pass gives a 25% discount on the adult Interrail Pass price, valid in 33 countries, to travellers aged 12–27. Age is checked on the first day of travel and permanent residents of Europe qualify. There is no selection: the discount is applied automatically.

It is a travel discount, not a grant: you pay for the ticket yourself. Interrail rules and prices change, so check current prices on the website; the record gives no figures.

Steps

  1. 1

Check your age: the 25 % discount applies if you are 12–27 on the date your trip starts (not on the purchase date).

  2. 2

Make sure you live permanently in Europe: the pass is for permanent European residents.

  3. 3

Open the Interrail Youth discounts page and choose the pass type (valid in 33 countries); we give no prices in our database, so see current ones on the site.

  4. 4

Buy the Youth Pass: the 25 % is taken off the adult Interrail Pass price.

  5. 5

Before travelling check Interrail's rules: they change, including seat-reservation rules.

What exactly to submit

Documents and materials to attach to the application.

  • An ID showing your date of birth (age is checked on the trip's start date)
  • Proof of permanent residence in Europe
  • A bank card to buy the pass

Example

Example (written by us): Ana is 20 and plans a July trip. She chooses an Interrail Pass with the days she needs, buys it at the Youth Pass price with 25 % off and studies the reservation rules beforehand.

An example we wrote to illustrate: it is not an official sample, replace the details with your own.

How applicants are chosen

There is no selection: the 25 % discount is automatic for everyone aged 12–27 on the trip's start date.

Common mistakes

  • Counting your age on the purchase date, not the trip's start date
  • Expecting free travel: it is only a 25 % discount
  • Not checking seat reservations: they may be paid and compulsory on some lines
