About this grant

The University of Ottawa (uOttawa) is one of Canada's largest bilingual universities. For international students entering English-language programmes it has the International English Admission Scholarship: an automatic award of $7,500 per term, $60,000 in total, with a minimum admission average of 80%. No application is needed: you are assessed when your admission application is reviewed. The data come from the OUInfo database, where Ontario universities publish scholarship terms; there the scholarship has a grade range of 80-85% and it combines with the International English Academic Excellence Scholarship (a separate record) for those with 95% or more.

Conditions: be an international student with a valid study permit, newly admitted from the Winter 2026 term or later to an approved English-language undergraduate programme in the faculties of Arts, Engineering, Health Sciences, Science, Social Sciences or the Telfer School of Management; not enrol in a French programme or the French immersion stream; study full time. To renew, per the database, you must remain enrolled full time in one of those faculties; it renews up to 12 instalments.

Bear in mind: the amounts are in Canadian dollars and cover only part of international tuition. The OUInfo page gives no deadlines (they follow the deadline for applying to uOttawa), does not explain how uOttawa converts Spanish Bachillerato marks into an “admission average” and does not say whether the scholarship combines with awards other than those named. For 2027 entry, the wording “Winter 2026 or later” keeps it in force; the 2027/28 amounts must be confirmed with the university.

How applicants are chosen

Automatic by admission average (the range in the OUInfo database is 80-85%). There is no competition or essay. The page does not say how uOttawa converts Bachillerato marks into an “admission average”.

Common mistakes

  • Looking for an application form: there is none, everything goes through the admission application
  • Enrolling in a French programme or immersion: the scholarship is for English-language programmes only
  • Treating the amounts as confirmed for 2027/28: the data come from OUInfo and must be confirmed with the university

Tips

  • We haven't re-checked the conditions by hand yet: compare amounts and deadlines with the official page before applying.
