Steps

  1. 1

Check your age: 14 to 30 inclusive on the deadline. Spanish nationals can take part wherever they live, and so can foreigners with legal residence in Spain.

  2. 2

Choose one of the eight categories: short film, dance, photography, micro-theatre, music, visual art, poetry or short story. Each person submits one work in one category.

  3. 3

Prepare the work to the category's requirements (format, length and size are in the call on the City Council site) and decide whether to enter alone or as a group: for groups everyone's age is checked, and in short film the director's.

  4. 4

Submit the application and work on the Madrid City Council site within 20 working days after the extract's BOCM publication: in 2026 the window closed on 23 February; the 2027 date is a guide.

  5. 5

If you are a finalist you show the work at one of the city's festivals and then at the final gala where the prizes are given.

  6. 6

Winners must give bank details (form T): tax is withheld from the prize.

What exactly to submit

Documents and materials to attach to the application.

  • An ID showing your age (14–30) and nationality or legal residence
  • The work in your chosen category
  • The electronic application on the Madrid City Council site
  • For winners, the bank-details form (form T)

Example

Example (written by us): Ana, 18, from Albacete, shoots a three-minute short film. In February she submits it on the Madrid City Council site in the “cortometraje” category, reaches the final and screens the film at a city festival.

An example we wrote to illustrate: it is not an official sample, replace the details with your own.

How applicants are chosen

A specialist jury picks the finalists, who show their work at festivals and at the final gala. There are 16 prizes in all, two in each of the eight categories.

What happens after you apply

First prize €6,000 and second €4,000 in each category (€80,000 in total), with tax withheld. In 2025 there were 355 entrants, 28 of them from outside the Community of Madrid.

Common mistakes

  • Submitting several works or in several categories: only one is allowed
  • Missing the 20-working-day window after the BOCM publication
  • In short film, forgetting that the director's age is what counts
  • Not checking that all group members are 14–30

Tips

  • We haven't re-checked the conditions by hand yet: compare amounts and deadlines with the official page before applying.
